What is an Indictable offence?

In Canada, Indictable Offences are also known as Indictable Conviction Offences. These offences are more serious than a summary offences.  Maximum penalties for indictable offences are different depending on the crime and can include life in prison. Depending on the severity of the crime these offences can be tried in front of a Judge in the Ontario Court of Justice or in front of a Jury or Judge alone in the Superior Court of Justice
